BROCK MITCHELL

NATIONAL TEAM HEAD COACH
20+ YEARS COACHING EXPERIENCE
PLAYED FOR LONG BEACH STATE & UNLV

HOME LIFE: Brock grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and lived there for 23 years overall.  He met his wife, Alicia, through volleyball and they have one daughter, Atley. She joined Mountain Peak in 2018 on the U12 team and has loved her experience. The Mitchells moved to Ogden 11 years ago and have enjoyed the opportunities it has provided. After 11 years as a math teacher, Brock moved into administration and is currently the principal at Bonneville High School in Ogden.

EDUCATION: Brock began college at Long Beach State before finishing a Bachelor’s of Education from UNLV. He then earned his Masters of Educational Leadership from UNLV.  He taught math at Coronado High School in Las Vegas and at Fremont High School in Ogden.

VOLLEYBALL CAREER: Brock was lucky enough to grow up where men's volleyball was available. He began playing as a freshman and made the varsity team that year. He earned All-State recognition for the years he was there. He earned an opportunity to continue his playing career at Long Beach State. He transferred to UNLV and continued playing there while finishing his schooling. He continued playing at the yearly US Volleyball Nationals tournaments, winning gold with his team in 2011 in Dallas.

COACHING CAREER: Brock began coaching girls club upon returning to Las Vegas. He then became the assistant coach for the boys and girls teams at Coronado High School during college. After graduating with his Bachelors, he continued coaching at Coronado, becoming the boy's head coach and a year later, the girl's head coach. The move to Ogden came because of a chance to coach at the collegiate level. Brock coached at Weber State for two years before returning to the high school level as head coach at Fremont High. He has coached club for Wildcat Volleyball Club and Utah Ice. He has coached his boys and girls teams to three state runner-ups and five region championships.

WHY I COACH: "This sport has completely shaped my life and provided me countless opportunities I wouldn't have had without it. I want younger athletes to have these same doors opened for them. Volleyball also provides an avenue for kids to learn skills that they will need throughout their lives: perseverance, confidence, grit, teamwork, communication, problem solving, patience, resiliency, and so many others. I have seen kids overcome failure to reach incredible levels of success. I love seeing that growth in athletes and supporting their journeys through those trials. They are lessons that last a lifetime."
